If “you play anything” then why don’t you play (fill in the blank with the name of a song here)? This is probably the most frequently asked question. While we have the ability to “play anything”, we are not obligated to “play everything”. Fly 92.9 plays thousands more songs than any other radio station in town. And while there would be a few folks who would enjoy the 1812 Overture into the Beer Barrel Polka, most would not. We try and play surprising, fun combinations of music that still have a little bit of mass appeal. We add different songs all the time. And, quite frankly, some of our best suggestions come from listeners. Let us know what you think.
Who picks the music?
On a broad scale, you do. Fly 92.9 utilizes formal music research of listeners to help guide our choices. We get as much feedback and music information as we can from our audience. We also use sale, download, video, social media and airplay information.
On a day to day basis, the Program Director, Brad Waldo, puts together the actual music log for each day.
Do you play requests?
We like people to let us know songs they want to hear. But, honestly, we can’t do instant requests. There is a lot of planning that goes into what songs are played, how often they are played, and what songs are played together. Requests after the music is already scheduled can alter the sound of the station. For example, one of the considerations is how recently a song has played. You may request a song that you did not hear when it was recently played, and we need to let it rest before playing it the next time. Otherwise, people will be hearing it play too close together. We keep track of the requests, and when possible, let you know when we are able to work it onto the air.
Who is that funny voiced guy on the station? Some of Fly 92.9’s on air announcements are made by the actor, John O’Hurley. He is most recognized for his role as Elaine’s boss on Seinfeld, as host of Family Feud, and his appearance on Dancing With The Stars. And for being on Fly 92.9, of course!
Do you play dedications?
No.
